Behind the Atelier Rill: Carl Rasmussen

"In my entire professional life, I have sculpted. As a professional cinematographer, I work daily to shape the most intangible material of all — the light. I capture textures, create moods and build spatiality through a lens. But at heart, I have always carried on a longing for the purely tactile. To put your hands in the physical, the raw and the enduring.”

The idea of the Hill lamp is not something that arose overnight. It's a concept I've carried with me for many years; a vision of materializing the perfect light source. I wanted to create an object where the boundary between functional lighting and brutalist sculpture is completely blurred.

It is only now, through the meeting between modern digital craftsmanship and sustainable innovation, that the idea has become a reality. By 3D-printing in biodynamic oak, I have been able to give shape to the exact lines, shadow play and the weight that I have carried in my head for so long.

Atelier Rill is born out of this crash. Here my experience from the film is met with my passion for ceramics, sculpture and photography. What starts here on the webshop is my personal vision, but the goal is to quickly expand into a collective of like-minded creators — a gathering place for exclusive art objects where the material and form are always at the absolute center.
