Behind the Atelier Rill: Carl Rasmussen

Throughout my professional life, I have been sculpting. As a professional cinematographer, I work daily to shape the most intangible material of all: light. I capture textures, create atmospheres, and build spatiality through a lens. Yet at heart, I have always carried a longing for the purely tactile to get my hands on the physical, the raw, and the enduring.

The idea for the Rill lamp did not arise overnight. It is a concept I have carried with me for many years; a vision to materialize the perfect light source. I wanted to create an object where the boundary between functional lighting and brutalist sculpture is completely blurred.

Only now, through the intersection of modern digital craft and sustainable innovation, has the idea been able to become reality. By 3D-printing in biodynamic oak, I have been able to give form to the exact lines, shadowplay, and weight that I have carried in my mind for so long.

Atelier Rill is born out of this collision. Here, my experience from the film set meets my passion for ceramics, sculpture, and photography. What begins here on the webshop is my personal vision, but the goal is to quickly expand into a collective of like-minded creators—a gathering place for exclusive art objects where material and form always take absolute center stage.
