RILL 01 Mussel

Inspired by the organic geometry of seed capsules and shells, RILL 01b is a pendant light designed from a cinematographer’s perspective where controlling light begins with controlling shadow. Its fine vertical ridges carve subtle shadows across the lamp’s surface, balancing a soft ambient glow through the walls with direct illumination below.

The shade is additive-manufactured from a 100% bio-based composite of recycled mussel shells and cornstarch. The natural grain of the grinded shells remains distinctly visible in the printed layers, bringing a raw, tactile texture to the sculpted form and a glowing ember warm light.

Each fixture is finished with in sweden locally reclaimed electrical components, including a black lamp socket and a black-dyed braided fabric cable.
